HVAC company Knipp Services in Wichita has sold its commercial sales, service and aftermarket parts business to Trane U.S. Inc.
Owner John Knipp made the decision to retire after running the business for 28 years and being in the industry for nearly 50.
“It was just time,” he says.
Knipp says Trane officially took over at the end of the year and that all 42 of his employees retained jobs with the company.
Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
“John built a strong business centered around integrity, teamwork and customer service, and Trane is honored to continue those values and to continue to serve the Kansas HVAC market,” Laura Rygielski, the company’s vice president and district general manager, said in an emailed statement. “Trane is ready and committed to support new and existing customers with all of their current and upcoming projects.”
Trane will now be located in Knipp’s facility at 120 S. Ida near downtown Wichita.
After years as the independent agent for most of Kansas for Trane, a brand of Ingersroll Rand (NYSE: IR), Knipp says familiarity with the company’s products made it best suited to become the new owner.
“The biggest reason (for selling to Trane) was the associates,” he says. “It was continuity.”
Knipp Services was a multiple-time honoree in the WBJ Best Places to Work Awards, including in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
